Have you ever heard of distributed computing? SETI ( Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence ) do so by using a tiny little program called BOINC ( Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing ) in order to number crunch raw data. This saves having to rent time and processing power on large supercomputers ( which can easily consume smaller scientific budgets ) by distributing tiny chunks of data across thousands of home computers and laptops. Not only is BOINC used by SETI, but also for into weather prediction, cancer research, physics, geology and much more.

Similarly, bitcoin and/or Cryptocurrency mining software can also be distributed across hundreds, if not, thousands of computers by single entities that wish to raise funds, either for personal gain ( and sometimes against the users will by use of hidden web-page applets or malware ) OR for charity. This particular blog and site only wish to

After doing the math, there is not much my laptop, by itself, could mine at any rate, nor did I want decided that anything I made using mining would go to charity. I actually don't need the money - especially not the few cents a day that my small laptop could make.

Soooo I delved deeper, searching for a solution, hoping it wasn't too late and .... finally .... there it was ( a simple google search later )! There is more than just one coin; there are hundreds of them. You see, CryptoCurrency aka altcoins can be but a few weeks old, a few months old. There are some, unbenounced to me that had forked out, or followed from, the original BitCoin. And each different coin according to its own niche, its own levels of security, anonymity and usage.

I needed a place to start. Somewhere that was noob friendly, explained things WELL and offered a degree of support. Also, help with which coins to mine - what coins would be most profitable along with what to avoid. A good mining community where there are conversion calculators as well as a good knowledge base as to see what kind of hardware ( CPU's and GPU's [ Graphics Cards ]) that were ideal for the task.  Minergate did it all! Benchmarks your computer then calculates and determines the hash power your device has to mine any variety of cryptocurrency.
